title Computer Integrated Construction: a major STEP forward
source Proceedings of ARECDAO 1989, Barcelona, Spain, 12-14 April, pp 29-47
summary An increasing number of design and construction activities is now supported by computers. Computers which process information and control machines for the office, the workshop or the construction site. A new information society emerges, and we are part of it. This paper addresses some consequences of this new information society, and the importance of better information control. It will become obvious that we need to improve the communication between automated processes. An important role will be played in the near future by a new ISO standard for data exchange between computer-applications, called STEP (=Standard for the Exchange of Product model data).
