The instantaneous nature of globalized information has brought places closer together and homogenized space, eliminating regional differences. Contemporary urban architecture and the technical-scientific- informational quality of the human-made environment innovates the rationality of the dominant actors in society. The field of telecommunications has developed substantially in the last 30 years, and today we are participants in a digital era, that has not only shortened distances but revolutionized the concepts of time and space. Telematics is a fundamental element of cities at the end of the millennium and has become a new instrument of social control. Electronic vigilance systems, as an application of telematics, are now widely used in cities, and a new urban space is being configured based on this dynamic. This paper is an introductory essay on the topic, which is essential in the understanding of urban spatial dynamics, and its objective is to point out fields for future research. |
