Summary: |
The paper investigates the application of a structured Genetic Algorithm (sGA) to the structuraldesign of buildings. The current research aim is to develop a decision support system to assistthe designer at the conceptual stage of the design process where important decisions whichinfluence the future of projects, are made; a very significant amount of the total project cost iscommitted at this stage. The paper also discusses the possibility of the integration of designactivities of disciplines involved in the design process, using the sGA. Methodologies of usingsGA are introduced and some of the shortcomings of the sGA are identified. |
