| Summary: | This paper presents a computer program, called PILE, for designing pile supported embankment structures. The program allows the user to input the characteristics of a single pile, the embankment and the foundation environment. The program first calculates the bearing capacity of a single pile, then proceeds on iteratively calculating the efficiency of a pile group until the minimum number of piles required to carry the given embankment load is reached. The intermediate results are also displayed on the screen, enabling the user to experiment with different geometrical characteristics of a pile and the embankment. |
