This paper presents a computer program, called PILE, for designing pile supportedembankment structures. The program allows the user to input the characteristics of a singlepile, the embankment and the foundation environment. The program first calculates thebearing capacity of a single pile, then proceeds on iteratively calculating the efficiency of apile group until the minimum number of piles required to carry the given embankment load isreached. The intermediate results are also displayed on the screen, enabling the user toexperiment with different geometrical characteristics of a pile and the embankment. |
