Summary: |
This paper is concerned with the development of an appropriate communications infrastructure forvirtual construction project teams within the framework of concurrent life-cycle design and construction(CLDC). It identifies the key communication facets which need to be addressed, and highlights the factthat these alter through the stages in the project lifecycle. It also argues that finding the right people tocommunicate with is as important as (if not more important than) finding information within acollaborative environment. The concept of telepresence, which is becoming increasingly important incommunications within virtual organisations, is also examined and its potential within a CLDCenvironment discussed. The approach being explored in a collaborative research project between TheUniversity of Teesside and British Telecommunications plc is also briefly presented and the attendantbenefits to the construction industty outlined. |
