| Summary: | As a result of recent population increases in South East Queensland, significant pressure has been placed on existing infrastructure, particularly linear infrastructure such as roads, high voltage powerlines and water pipelines. Hence the need for significant upgrading and the subsequent use of compulsory purchase powers for land acquisition. However, little attention has been given in professional and academic literature to assessing public perceptions of infrastructure suppliers with respect to property interference and the negative externalities associated with such infrastructure provision. Results of 4 focus group surveys into public perceptions of power line infrastructure provision are discussed and attitudes towards property interference and environmental risk analysed. The research forms a platform for developing a model of externality effects on public risk perceptions and property value. |
