Summary: |
From the analogy between computer and theater, such as proposed by Brenda Laurel, this paper aims to introduce a discussion on the possibility of contemporary dramaturgies’ contributions to the project of hypermedia interfaces that are able to motivate the users action. Some of Bertolt Brecht’s concepts, although namely opposed to Aristotle´s poetics, are briefly introduced as they refer to the idea of commitment with audience motivation. This approach requires the presentation of some key issues regarding the idea of engaging human-computer experiences. These issues evolve from Laurel’s theory, published in the early 1990s and focussed in the computer as a medium for action representation, to contemporary concerns that start to address the urge for new study fields related to the design of human-computer activities.
