Summary: Knowledge-based systems utilise concepts from artificial intelligence. Theyare the bases of new models of design which have the potential to extend theutility of computers in design. This paper briefly reviews current researchsupporting new knowledge-based CAD models of design before describing andelaborating two such models. One is case-based design and the other iscreative design.
