Summary: |
The integrated utilisation of 'design cases with different types ofgeneralised knowledge raises particular issues on the representation andmemory organisation of design cases. The complexity of the design processin bdclmg construction and the lack of design intentions in building projectdocuments make these issues even more important in creating integratedcase-based design systems in this domain. What makes up a design case, howit is acquired and represented, how specific knowledge in design cases can beefficiently used and integrated with generalised knowledge, and how toorganise case memory are addressed in this paper. Based on our previousexperiences in developing case-based design systems and exploringheterogeneous knowledge memory, two schemes for design caserepresentation and case memory organisation are presented. They arediscussed in terms of content of cases, method of acquisition, framework ofrepresentation, and organisation of case memory. |
