Summary: |
Concurrent engineering is understood as a methodology that can be used to increasequality and reduce design effort and time-to-market of a product. Main aspects of concurrent engineeringare information sharing among multiple design agents and problem solving actions. Associatedtechniques are product models and intelligent design tools. In the paper the interrelationship ofproduct modelling technology and intelligent design support is reviewed.A practical contribution to concurrent engineering by using design tools as intelligent interfacesto product models has been done by the authors. The paper describes the concept and prototypicimplementation of two knowledge-based design tools in the domain of structural design. The toolsform integrated parts of a design environment linked via a central product model. |
