Summary: |
This paper is a case study of implementation and use of application sharing in a distributedengineering organisation. Technical aspects and requirements to the infrastructure areaddressed, but the focus is on how application sharing is conceived by the users, experiencesfrom use and possible implications for organisation of project teams and support services.Possibilities and critical success factors are identified. Barriers and limitations are alsoidentified. Natural dissemination to all employees has been slower than expected. The timeand effort needed to implement the service in an organisation should not be underestimated. However, to many of the engineers, application sharing has become an everyday anindispensable service, enabling distributed solving of closely coupled tasks. The authoradvocates that a distributed organisation can reap the investment in very short time. |
