Construction organizations are critically dependent on data. But data mustbe available in suitable forms for use. Timely access to useful andmeaningful information can enable construction companies gaincompetitive edge, increase client satisfaction, expand market share andenhance profitability. Vast amounts of construction operational data arescattered across multiple, dispersed and fragmented departments, units orproject sites. In this paper, we present data warehousing as an emergingdatabase management technology that can provide the resource for decisionmaking.We point out the difference between an operational database - usedfor transaction processing; and a data warehouse - intended to be used foranalytic processing in management decision-making in the context ofconstruction organizations. |
