||Development tools for computer-aided design applications in structural engineering

||This paper reviews some development tools for CAD applications in structural engineering. These tools include spreadsheets, database applications, object-oriented applications, graphics-based applications and neural networks applications. The paper compares these tools against some criteria including standards representation capability, ease of development, suitability for large-scale systems, suitability for in-house software development, maintenance and extensibility capability, integration with other CAD applications, support for non-standard design. Recommendations for both in-house software developers and commercial software developers are given.
