| Summary: | Although computer hardware has evolved at an unprecedented rate over the last twenty years followed by waves of new software approaches such as artificial intelligence, object-oriented programming and the Internet, research priorities in building design identified twenty years ago are still relevant today. These priorities are: a) to better integrate and share information produced by the various professionals in a building project, and b) to provide assistance to designers earlier in the process when the most important decisions are taken. A review of illustrative and relevant research projects undertaken by the authors is provided in light of these priorities. The main goal behind these projects has always been to produce better buildings, which have such an important impact on people's quality of life, their communities, and the environment. |
