Summary: |
Small and medium sized enterprises in the AEC sector most often are lacking human and financial resources to implement and test mobile technologies within their businesses. Consequently, SME do not benefit from the various advantages of integrating field personnel into the company's IT-infrastructure. To foster the adoption of mobile technologies by SME in the AEC sector we have developed an implantation strategy as part of the research project called IuK-System Bau. The strategy provides a structured and user-oriented guideline concerning the introduction of mobile devices, wireless networks and mobile services into the individual company's specializations. This paper describes the various steps we have taken to develop the implantation strategy. One special focus of the paper concentrates on the presentation and analysis of the field tests conducted within our research project to evaluate the prototypes developed, namely the Extended Construction Diary and the Mobile Errors and Omissions Management application. The outcome of the field test has significantly determined the development of our implantation strategy. |
