Summary: |
The practice of Surveying and Construction layout is one of the fundamental skills that need to be acquired by an engineering or construction management student. Mastering these skills require extensive training with the equipment and team members in order to achieve both precision and accuracy in measurements. In additional to getting used to the equipments, the mastering of the technique requires the students to follow procedures accurately. This paper presents the results of testing a surveying and construction layout game. The game is a first step in a plan to develop a Virtual Reality VR surveying education tool, where students will practice by interacting with a real time computer generated imagery (CGI).The test involve students who have been enrolled in the surveying class for the spring semester 2010. The students are asked to perform a specific surveying task. The students attempts are documented based on their ability to follow the correct procedures and on their ability to choose the correct needed equipment. The paper will show the results of the students ability to follow the correct procedures needed to achieve the appropriate level of precision and accuracy. The results of this test will help make the case that Virtual Reality tools can reinforce the learning of hands on classes such is the case for Surveying and Construction Layout. |
